Companies: Manage Organizations
Overview
The Companies screen is where you manage the organizations (companies) you can access in Spotto. From here you can:
- View and search your companies
- Create a new company
- Edit company settings (configuration, user registration, strategy, notifications, integrations)
- Delete a company (if more than one exists)
Access the Companies screen
In the Portal navigation, open Companies. If you have no companies yet, you will see a welcome screen prompting you to create your first company.
Companies list
The list view shows the companies you can access, along with your role(s) in each company.
What you can do:
- Search by company name
- Sort by company name
- Select a company (highlights it for context)
- Edit or delete if you have permissions for that company
Permissions behavior
- Edit/Delete actions only appear for users with Company Admin permissions on that company.
- Clicking a row will only open the edit screen if you have permissions.
- If you do not have permissions, the row is not navigable.
Deleting a company
- If there is only one company, the Delete action opens a dialog explaining it cannot be deleted.
- If there are multiple companies, Delete requires confirmation.
Create a company
From the Companies list, click New to create a company. If you are in the onboarding wizard, you will be guided into company setup automatically.
After a successful create:
- Wizard mode: you are redirected to add a cloud account.
- Standard mode: you return to the Companies list.
Edit a company
Editing a company is organized into tabs.
Configuration
Basic company details and parent company selection.
- Name: required
- Website: validated as a URL-like domain (shows inline error if invalid)
- Parent Company:
- Only shown when you have access to more than one company
- Only root companies can be selected as parents
- If the company has child companies, the parent field is locked
- If you are using an API key identity, the parent may be locked to that key’s company
If you change the parent for an existing company, Spotto asks you to confirm before saving.
For details on parent-child behavior, see Parent-Child Companies.
User Registration
Controls who can request access and what role they receive.
- Allowed Email Domains:
- Up to 5 domains
- Each domain must be valid and unique
- Invalid or duplicate domains show inline errors
- Default Role for new users
- Require Pending Approval: if enabled, new users must be approved before access
Strategy
Defines company objectives using a survey-based form. Changes are saved with the main form.
Notifications
Manage notification subscriptions for the company.
- Add, edit, or delete subscriptions
- Add saves immediately (for existing companies); edit/delete are saved when you use the main form actions
Integrations
Connect Spotto to external ticketing systems. Supported providers include:
- Jira
- Halo
- ConnectWise
Integration secrets are stored securely. Some providers allow connection tests and additional configuration (like project boards or labels).
Validation rules and guardrails
Spotto enforces these rules in the Companies screen:
- "Default Company" is not allowed as a company name.
- Website must look like a valid domain or URL.
- Allowed domains must be valid and not duplicated.
- Parent company must be a root company and cannot create multi-level hierarchies.
Troubleshooting
I do not see Edit or Delete buttons
Likely cause: You do not have Company Admin permission for that company.
Fix: Ask a company admin to grant the appropriate role.
I cannot delete the last company
Expected behavior: Spotto prevents deleting the final company in your account.
Fix: Create another company first, or contact support if you need a full reset.
Domain validation errors keep appearing
Likely cause: The domain is invalid or duplicated.
Fix: Use a valid domain format (e.g., example.com) and ensure each domain is unique.
